acid house was nothing to do with dropping acid, the name came from the sound of the hi hat, which sounded like acid eating away at something. It was always mainly an e thing

Acid comes from the word acetate or acetone, I don't which one. A chemical originally used by editors when cutting and splicing tape. So something which had samples inserted was called an acid cut. Acid house was a natural early name because of all the samples.
